In this exceptional leadership opportunity, you will lead Butlr’s product data science and engineering team. Machine learning research from your team introduces new algorithms for the Butlr Platform; data engineering feeds key feature sets and other data to product systems and analytic applications; experimentation research, experiment design, metrics innovation, and analytics enable us to learn what works best for Butlr customers; and data visualization and other analytic tools open up insights to the whole company, strengthening every area of the business.
You will pursue these challenges as a data science thought leader and key executive partner in Butlr’s Technology Department. In addition to leading a team of passionate, driven professionals, you will influence business and technical strategies to help us solidify Butlr’s agency in the proptech world and continue our quest to revolutionize the ways we think about the built environment.

What You Will Do
Inspire and lead your team to deliver strategic and novel data science approaches that help optimize Butlr’s approach to growth, the customer-facing product, and guide ongoing product decisions.

Participate heavily in Butlr’s executive team: help set business strategy, represent product data science and engineering, initiate and debate key strategic topics and opportunities from your team’s work, and drive bold high-impact decisions.

Grow and expand your expert team with an eye toward diverse and forward-pushing skills that span machine learning methods, data engineering, experimentation, and analytics.

Instill an inclusive team culture that is innovative and collaborative.

Lead strong partnerships with Butlr’s product management, engineering, design, and marketing teams.


Your Background And Characteristics
You enjoy having a strategic impact at an executive level, including interacting with other leaders on tangly issues and applying strong judgment and analysis toward important business decisions.

You have a deep technical background in applied data science, spanning some or all of statistics, experimentation, machine learning, causal methods, optimization techniques, data engineering and architecture (applied to large data), and behavioral analytics. You likely have an M.S. or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Physics, Operations Research, etc.

You have experience building and leading geographically distributed data science teams. You are proactive and passionate about org health topics including inclusion & diversity, growth & development of ICs and people leaders, and functional excellence.

You are skilled at operating in a complex, cross-functional organization where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many disciplines.

You have exceptional communication skills. You are articulate with both technical and business partners. You create effective frameworks to aid the discussion of complicated topics. You are an active listener. You are strong across written communication as well as oral presentations. You are naturally conscious of who needs to know what and proactively seek to share important context accordingly.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of professional software development experience
2+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with REST API design and implementation
Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Nomad
Experience with AWS
Experience working with scientists on algorithm and model development.
Experience coaching and leading junior engineers.

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with Golang
Experience with Rustlang
Experience with IoT systems
Experience with MQTT, Eclipse Mosquitto, Apache Kafka
Experience with time-series databases, e.g., InfluxDB

As a senior frontend engineer you will be responsible for developing the web experience for customers to monitor and manage their Butlr deployments. You will work closely with PM's, designers, and the API team to deliver a rich interface including charts & visualizations, interactive drawing tools, and management UI's. You will bring your extensive experience with modern frameworks, JSON REST API's, and frontend testing to make smart tech choices for a green-field project and rapidly build features in a fast-paced startup environment.
